I finally watched “The Great Debaters” the other day and when I heard this quote I knew it was going into the ‘bank’ of motivating quotes I keep handy when my spirit tends to dwindle.

Even the best of us have those days when we aren’t feeling inspired, motivated, or even successful.  For me, reading a few of the greatest quotes of all time is usually all that’s needed to do the trick and get me back in the right frame of mind for success.  Today I want to share the first of MANY lists of the “Things That Motivate Me” series.

In today’s list of “Things That Motivate Me“, I want to cover TEN MOTIVATING QUOTES that I use to snap me back into the successful frame-of-mind:

Marva Collins was an America teacher who started a school to help teach poor students who were previously labelled “Unteachable”, and taught successfully for over 30 years.

 

‘THERE IS ONLY ONE SUCCESS – TO BE ABLE TO SPEND YOUR LIFE IN YOUR OWN WAY’ – Christopher Morley

Christopher Morley was a journalist, writer, and poet.  A lifelong passion for the written word, he authored over 100 novels, books of essays, and poetry volumes.

 

‘THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A SUCCESSFUL PERSON AND OTHERS IS NOT A LACK OF STRENGTH, NOT A LACK OF KNOWLEDGE, BUT RATHER A LACK OF WILL’ – Vince Lombardi

Vince Lombardi is one of the most popular and famous coaches of all-time.  Coaching the Green Bay Packers in the 1960′s, he led the Pack to three consecutive championships and five in seven years.  This includes winning the first two Super Bowls ever in 1966 and 1967.

Will Smith, one of the world’s most well-known personalities, is also hugely inspirational and you should look for much more about Will in the coming months.

Robert Collier was an author and one of the first to create ‘self-help’ type books.  He is one of the original thinkers behind the theory of The Secret.

 

‘ALL POWER IS FROM WITHIN AND IS THEREFORE UNDER OUR OWN CONTROL’ – Robert Collier

I added another from Robert Collier because when I’m feeling like the world doesn’t want me to be successful, I remember that it is all up to me!

 

‘THE WATERS WEAR THE STONES’ – The Book of Job 14:19

I’m not a religious man, but this quote embodies everything I try to teach my medical students as well as my business students… That being, if you take the first step, then consistently put one foot in front of the other, you will eventually reach your destination.  This is just like the Will Smith quote above, where he says don’t set out to build a wall, set out to lay each and every brick as perfectly as you possibly can.  Eventually, you’ll have a perfect wall.

 

‘PERSISTENT PEOPLE BEGIN THEIR SUCCESS WHERE OTHERS END IN FAILURE’ – Edward Eggleston

Edward Eggleston was a home-schooled man who became a highly regarded author and historian.
