HOW TO WRITE EMAILS THAT KEEP PEOPLE ON YOUR LIST

“Keep Giving Value And The Majority Will Come Back”

As online business owners, we work our butts off for each and every new lead that comes into our sales funnel, so it always blows my mind when I see someone bombarding their subscribers with offer after offer without having provided anything more than a free opt-in gift that took thirty minutes to put together.

I’ve probably subscribed to well over one-hundred IM lists in my few short years online, some because I wanted to learn from the best, and some because I wanted to observe how they were sending out their emails to their potential customers.  I can say I’ve seen almost every email marketing strategy out there, and I have to be honest some are downright awful!

What makes an email follow-up sequence awful?  Well, in my honest opinion, if all you’re doing is sending me another way to make money online every single day, with each email claiming to be THE LIFE CHANGING EMAIL, then I’m immediately turned off.  This to me screams of the old-school hype, which I think we’re all pretty desensitized to these days.

I’m not in the business of pushing ‘products’ that are meant to provide you with an easy solution, I’m 100% all about providing the education that is needed to succeed with an online business – no matter which niche, no matter how much experience online.  That’s why when I put together my own email sequences, the main goal is always to provide over-the-top, high-quality information that will improve and enrich my subscriber’s lives.  If they buy from me because I’ve made an impression, fantastic!  If they don’t, I hope they’ll at least take my free advice and run with it.

SO, HOW DO YOU CREATE AN EMAIL SEQUENCE THAT DELIVERS REAL VALUE YET STILL MAKES YOU MONEY?

I deliver three types of emails, they are as follows:

Email Type #1 – The pure content email

This type of email is like a quality article – it provides lots of information they can use right away to improve, and within the body makes no suggestion of buying anything.  Within the signature at the bottom of this email I lay out a simple, friendly reminder that they can check out product A, product B, etc. by clicking the link HERE.

That’s it!

The point of this  email is to deliver content without them feeling like all you care about is their money.  This is what you call truly building a relationship.  Because in a good relationship, you can’t be all about taking, taking, taking… You have to give and sacrifice, and only then can trust be built – and trust me people aren’t going to buy from you unless they trust you.

Email Type #2 – The content + few URL email

This type of email is pretty similar to the pure content email, except I tend to build the desire to click on the links within the body a bit more obvious.  For example, I may write a good beefy paragraph loaded with information, then tell my reader that they can take things to the next level by clicking the following link.

And you create a content-rich email and just toss in a couple links following each paragraph.

Email Type #3 – The direct sale email

This is an email that gets right to the point and asks your customer to take immediate action.  This email should NEVER be the first in the sequence of emails because remember, people won’t buy from you until they like and trust you, nor do people tend to buy until they’ve heard from you an average of seven times.

Using email types 1 and 2 first will build your credibility, build you up as the ‘go to’ expert, and blow your reader away because trust me when I say, most Internet Marketers are not providing more free information than they are sales pitches – so if you create a good email sequence loaded with value, its going to go a long way in the success of your business.

WHAT WOULD A TYPICAL SEQUENCE LOOK LIKE IF USING THIS STRATEGY?

Now remember, you really only have to set up your sequence one time.  It might take you a few days to create, but it’ll keep working for you long-term, which is the key to long-term success online.

Here’s how a typical sequence might look:

Email 1 – Pure content (Day 1)

Email 2 – Pure content (3 days later)

Email 3 – Content + few URL’s (3 days later)

Email 4 – Content + few URL’s (1 day later)

Email 5 – Content + few URL’s (2 days later)

Email 6 – Sales pitch email (1 day later)

Email 7 – Sales pitch email (1 day later) ** sending a second ‘reminder’ email after the pitch email is a good strategy to get customers to read the email

Email 8 – Pure content (3 days later) ** if they didn’t buy, draw back and provide more quality information without selling

Email 9 – Pure content (3 days later)

Email 10 – Content + few URL’s (3 days later)

Email 11 – Content + few URL’s (3 days later)

Email 12 – Content + few URL’s (3 days later)

Email 13 – Sales email (1 day later)

Email 14 – Sales email (1 day later)

Email 15 – 25 – Content + few URL’s ** at this point they haven’t purchased, so keep delivering value with soft sells within the body.

And that’s a look at how to create an email sequence.  You’ll notice we’re giving away a lot of content to our subscribers – and that’s why they decided to give us their name and email address – content!  Every person who subscribes is a potential new customer and/or client, so we need to nurture the relationship with them if we hope to become successful with our online businesses.

This is clearly a less aggressive way to create a follow-up sequence, but realize we’re in a new age of Internet Marketing… People are skeptical of buying things online these days, so you need to go the extra mile in order to assure them that you’re someone who really does care about helping them and improving their lives by answering whatever problem they’re currently facing.

I hope this helps you convert more subscribers into buyers!

Until next time!
